Film Honors: 2006

My own personal choices for the year. They reflect not just necessarily what I think is the best or essential cinema, but perhaps resonate with me or inspire, both at the time, and still today. Subject to alter choices if new viewings are worthy enough. Other published Film Honors posts can be found at the menu at the top of the page.

  1. I know most of these films, and I think they’re great picks. As you know I love greatly The Departed, but I can accept that you and others don’t love it as much as I do. I really need to re-watch Pan’s Labyrinth and Babel. Plus, I should see Volver and Papurika.

  2. My picks:
    Picture: Letters from Iwo Jima
    Director: Paul Greengrass; United 93
    Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio; The Departed
    Actress: Penelope Cruz; Volver
Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin; Little Miss Sunshine
    Supporting Actress: Rinko Kikuichi; Babel
    Original Screenplay: Pan’s Labyrinth
    Adapted Screenplay: The Departed

2006-07 are, by far, the best two years for film in the 2000’s.
