76th Golden Globe Nominations Announced

As I said when I made my nomination predictions, you never know what you are going to get with these tricky voters. Much like the Oscars, you’re always wondering whether they’ll go big for this or that film. Well, they went a rather interesting way this year.

First off, A Star Is Born managed a solid five nominations but still was an underperformer since it was snubbed in Best Screenplay and even Supporting Actor for Sam Elliott. Surprisingly, it was the political satire Vice that led the pack with six nominations.

Also, Black Panther proved it’s very much in the Oscar hunt as it managed a Best Motion Picture-Drama nomination. Meanwhile, The Favourite landed five nominations but was snubbed in Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos. Lastly, despite being ineligible for Best Motion Picture-Drama, Roma managed to score a solid three nominations.

But while there is plenty to celebrate, no awards show is complete without some big snubs. For starters, there’s the lack of Widows anywhere. No Viola Davis. No Elizabeth Debicki. No Gillian Flynn in Screenplay. No Hans Zimmer in Score. NOWHERE.

Other snubs include Ethan Hawke for First Reformed, Toni Collette for Hereditary, If Beale Street Could Talk for Best Score, Cold War for Foreign Language Film, and Michelle Yeoh in Best Supporting Actress for Crazy Rich Asians. Although I think the double trouble of Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz is going to make it difficult for other contenders to find some leg room as the season progresses.

Anyhow, here are the film nominees:
