CRITICAL RESPONSE

“As a student of classic comedies, Baumbach uses strategies that work, freshening them up with an ensemble of vivid, fully dimensional characterizations — the kind we typically only meet on shows like “Transparent” where the creators have ample time to render them so fully.” – Peter Debruge (Variety)

“Sandler and his fellow leads make the film feel like Baumbach’s richest film since The Squid and the Whale. The Meyerowitzes all speak with the wit and observational detail that one might expect from the screenwriter of such whip-smart comedies as Mistress America and Kicking and Screaming. This isn’t just more of the same from Baumbach, a talented humorist, but a nuanced and highly accomplished collaboration that ranks among his finest to date.” – Simon Abrams (Slant Magazine)

“An assured entry into the filmmaker’s cinematic universe of dysfunctional families, The Meyerowitz Stories sees Noah Baumbach at his best.” – Tomris Laffly (Film Journal)

PRIZE POTENTIAL

A household name, Baumbach has hit so many of the right notes with this it seems, and with a cast of familiar faces performing to a high standard, The Meyerowitz Stories may be hard to ignore. With the Best Actor prize, the actors Hoffman, Stiller, Sandler, all received great praise so spoiled for choice unless the jury award an ensemble prize a la Volver. The most likely prize though would be Best Screenplay.

I make sure it's known the company's in business. I'd see that it had a certain panache. That's what I'm good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.
