PRIZE POTENTIAL
Haynes has won at Cannes before, an Artistic Contribution prize (Velvet Goldmine), and the Queer Palm (Carol, which also picked up a shared Best Actress for Rooney Mara), but not a Palme d’Or, Grand, or Jury Prize. The filmmaker is easy to warm too, and some favorable responses to Wonderstruck, but I can’t help feeling he will miss out again here, with only the sentimental vote offering him a slim chance among more impacting, raw projects in competition.
