Do I like Arrival more than I realized. 🙂

    1. Can’t wait to see Elle. Do you think there’s a chance she’ll beat Emma Stone? Love that you pick Jeff Bridges. The Dude abides. That Jackie score was really good too for sure. Hail, Caesar! was such a hard pick to take La La Land instead, but yeah, it’s a great great pick too. Interesting that you pick Arrival for Film editing. Is that mostly for the last 20 minutes?
Yes, you do like Arrival more than you thought. 🙂

      1. Yeah the last 20 minutes, but throughout, not many films are so seamlessly flowing as Arrival in 2016. That’s not the way the Academy look on Editing unfortunately. But you never know.
I do think Isabelle has a great, great chance. I’m still puzzled how Emma Stone became the front-runner. The momentum is heavy on Huppert now, people are talking about her, the work she has done this year, the career – the nomination itself (in the absence of Adams and Bening) speaks volumes for her chances.

  2. And mine…
    Best Picture — Arrival
Best Director — Denis Villeneuve (Arrival)
Best Actor — Denzel Washington (Fences)
Best Actress — Natalie Portman (Jackie)
Best Supporting Actor — Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water)
Best Supporting Actress — Viola Davis (Fences)
Best Original Screenplay — Manchester By the Sea/Hell or High Water (tie)
    Best Adapted Screenplay — Arrival
Best Animated Feature Film — Zootopia
Best Foreign Language Film — The Salesman
    Best Documentary — 13th
Best Original Score — Mica Levi (Jackie)
Best Original Song — “How Far I’ll Go” (Moana)
    Best Sound Editing — Arrival
    Best Sound Mixing — Arrival
Best Production Design — Hail, Caesar!
    Best Cinematography — Silence
Best Makeup and Hairstyling — Star Trek
    Best Costume Design — Jackie
    Best Film Editing — Arrival
Best Visual Effects — Doctor Strange

  3. You know you might get your wish for quite a few of them. I think Original Screenplay might go to Kenneth Lonergan so that Manchester by the Sea gets something, technical awards like production or costume design I suspect will go to others. I certainly would like the acting awards to go to Denzel, Viola, Mahersala and Emma. Maybe Isabelle Huppert. I haven’t seen all the nominees so I don’t really have an informed opinion but I like your picks. I think there’s a bit of growing backlash for La La Land so Picture and Director are going to be split like last year.
