Loyal friend of the site, and all-round movie super-geek, Al Robinson has set his own personal top 10 films of 2015. Let’s have a look before he changes his mind.
* * *
10. Furious 7 (James Wan)
This might be the best of the bunch. It’s over-the-top, but extremely entertaining. Plus, it finishes with a very nice send-off for Paul Walker. RIP Paul.
9. Spotlight (Tom McCarthy)
Not only was it informative, but entertaining too. I think Mark Ruffalo gave the best performance of the year.
8. The Walk (Robert Zemeckis)
I got real nervous when he stepped out on that wire, but I was glued to the screen the whole time.
7. Steve Jobs (Danny Boyle)
Aaron Sorkin’s script steals the show, with Michael Fassbender playing the orchestra.
6. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (J.J. Abrams)
I mean, it’s Star Wars for the next generation. It had the same style as A New Hope, but with new and very cool characters.
5. Straight Outta Compton (F. Gary Gray)
I had a hunch I was gonna like this since I am a big fan of bio films, and of course, NWA.
4. Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller)
This was the biggest surprise of the year. I’ve never seen a film like this, and I probably never will again.
3. Sicario (Denis Villeneuve)
I think Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and especially Benicio Del Toro give great performances, and it’s a tight thriller that delivers, especially in the last few scenes.
2. The Martian (Ridley Scott)
I didn’t know what to expect from Ridley Scott, but I was very happy to see that it’s not only great, but funny too.
1. The Revenant (Alejandro G. Iñárritu)
This was my most anticipated film of 2015, and it delivered in every way. I think it’s a masterpiece.
