Final Oscars Nominations Predictions – Best Costume Design

With the Academy’s nominations announcement drawing closer by the day, it’s time to lay it all on the line with my final Oscar nomination predictions. And, with BAFTA nominations coming five days after the Academy’s announcement, we’re flying without that typical precursor stat. At least we have their longlists for some reference.

Four films scored costume design nominations at the Critics Choice Awards and with the Costume Designers Guild, plus appear on the BAFTA longlist: FrankensteinWicked: For GoodHamnet, and Sinners. So let’s presume those are our solid bets with the Academy, too.

That leaves us with the fifth spot to debate. Hedda landed nods with both CCA and CDG, so it would be the smart prediction choice. And I might just switch it out before the nomination announcement. For now, it’s hard to deny Marty Supreme has seen its buzz grow in the latter part of the season, so I think it sneaks in here. Solo costuming nominations aren’t exactly rare, which works in favour of Hedda. A mighty tough one to call.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN PREDICTIONS:
1. Frankenstein – Kate Hawley (Netflix) – BAFTA longlist, CCA, CDG
2. Wicked: For Good – Paul Tazewell (Universal Pictures) – BAFTA longlist, CCA, CDG
3. Hamnet – Malgosia Turzanska (Focus Features) – BAFTA longlist, CCA, CDG
4. Sinners – Ruth E. Carter (Warner Bros.) – BAFTA longlist, CCA, CDG
5. Marty Supreme – Miyako Bellizzi (A24) – BAFTA longlist

Alternate: Hedda – Lindsay Pugh (Amazon MGM Studios) – CCA, CDG
