Nomadland and Rocks Lead BAFTA Nominations

Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland and Sarah Gavron’s Rocks lead the way at the nominations for the 74th British Academy Film Awards with seven nods each. Nomadland is up for Best Film, while Rocks will compete for Best British Film. Both Zhao and Gavron are nominated for Best Director. Elsewhere, Florian Zeller’s The Father, David Fincher’s Mank, Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari and Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman each received six nominations.

While Oscar players like Daniel Kaluuya, Riz Ahmed, Chadwick Boseman, Anthony Hopkins, and Frances McDormand all scored acting nominations, there were several surprising snubs for the likes of Carey Mulligan, Viola Davis, Olivia Colman, Sacha Baron Cohen, Steven Yeun, Delroy Lindo, and Gary Oldman.

In their places, BAFTA has taken their own unique awards season path by acknowledging the work of European actors like Niamh Algar, Kosar Ali, Bukky Bakray, Barry Keoghan, Ashley Madekwe, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tahar Rahim.

The 74th British Academy Film Awards will be held on April 11. Full list of nominations below.
