The 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place on Sunday, January 19 and the winners have made history.
“Parasite” is now the first foreign-language film ever that managed to win the best ensemble award against Hollywood’s own film offerings. The film by Bong Joon-Ho is currently also nominated for six Oscars including Best Picture.
SAG winners Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Laura Dern, and Brad Pitt, fresh off their Golden Globes, cemented their Oscar front-runner status in the main acting categories. Over in the TV side, Amazon continued its golden streak with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, which for the second year in a row took the Comedy Series Ensemble trophy and Tony Shalhoub winning for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge scored again with a Best Actress for her heavily lauded “Fleabag”, while Peter Dinklage finished his run on the final season of “Game of Thrones” with another Drama win. Meanwhile, Jennifer Aniston won her first solo SAG Award for “The Morning Show”.
Robert De Niro received a Life Achievement Award for his work on screen and humanitarian accomplishments, with Leonardo DiCaprio making the introduction.
