Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has dominated the 2026 Dorian Film Awards from GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics with a record-breaking seven wins, including Film of the Year, Director of the Year, Screenplay of the Year, Visually Striking Film of the Year, and Genre Film of the Year. Coogler was also named the Wilde Artist of the Year.
Elsewhere, Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) took home the award for Film Performance of the Year, while Amy Madigan (Weapons) earned Supporting Film Performance of the Year for work that captivated audiences and critics alike. Gregg Araki received the LGBTQIA+ Film Trailblazer Award for his decades-long commitment to fearless queer storytelling, and Eva Victor was named Rising Star for their vivid and emotionally incisive contributions to contemporary cinema.
“This year’s Dorian Film Award winners represent the best and most promising that the world of film has to offer,” said GALECA President Walter Hickey, “GALECA’s members have long recognised daring and adventurous art and the distinct, visionary artists responsible for it, and this year is no different.”
“In an era when spectacle often eclipses substance, Sinners reminded us that a blockbuster can also be strong, political, and profoundly human,” said GALECA Executive Director Diane Anderson-Minshall. “Our members were struck by its fearless storytelling, its powerful ensemble performances, and its examination of community, resilience, and moral complexity across histories too often pushed to the margins. The sweep at this year’s Dorian Awards reflects a rare alignment of critical admiration and cultural urgency, and reminds us why cinema still matters.”
Formed in 2008, GALECA now consists of over 400 professional critics and entertainment journalists (including Filmotomy’s Editor Robin Write and Awards Editor Doug Jamieson), making it one of the largest and most influential organizations of its type in the world.
