The Banshees of Inisherin and The Fabelmans were the big winners at the 80th Golden Globe Awards. The former scored wins for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Actor – Comedy or Musical for Colin Farrell, and Best Screenplay, while the latter was named Best Motion Picture – Drama and Steven Spielberg took home Best Director.
Elsewhere, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio was named Best Motion Picture – Animated and Martin McDonagh took home Best Screenplay for The Banshees of Inisherin. Angela Bassett scored an upset win for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, making her the first person to win a major acting award for a Marvel Studios film.
There was also an upset in the category for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language where Argentina, 1985 triumphed over Oscar frontrunners Decision to Leave and All Quiet on the Western Front and audience favourite RRR.
