With two American heavyweight films front and centre this awards season, even the vastly international body of the Pandora International Film Critics couldn’t shy away from Sinners (17 nominations) and One Battle After Another (14). Hamnet and Sentimental Value also scored high with 10 nods each. Not far behind were Frankenstein and No Other Choice with 7.
Then there was the dark horse, The Ugly Stepsister, which ranked 3rd highest with 6 nominations of all of the International Motion Picture shortlist. Ahead of 4 times nominated The Secret Agent, It Was Just an Accident, The Voice of Hind Rajab, Sorry, Baby, and Train Dreams. Wicked: For Good also managed to bag 4 nods, but many will consider this an under-performance.
Elsewhere, some refreshing choices also included If I Had Legs I’d Kick You making the English Language Motion Picture list, as well as Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love), Son Ye-jin (No Other Choice), and Odessa A’Zion (Marty Supreme) making the acting line-ups.
