I’m sure there are not many at this stage wondering where my blog posts are of late. And I’m sure there are not many who do not know I was in London from Sunday to Tuesday. And the London element kind of explains the lack of blog posts element. It was not a holiday as such, but certainly a short break for the family, as briefly scribed in my other recent London post.
Some of the notable places we did visit though were the huge Regent’s Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as admiring the high life in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (yes, that’s what they call it). We ate Greek food in Covent Garden, took a trip to Baker Street where Sherlock Holmes lives, and pottered about in Islington. Not to mention an after dark visit to Oxford Street, and a daytime visit to Camden Market.
Here, though, are ten things that I (or the family) definitely did not experience – some more thankfully than others:
WISHED I HAD MULTIPLE DOGS TO HANDLE LIKE MANY OWNERS IN LONDON
101 Dalmatians (1996)
ALLOWED FRUSTRATIONS WITH MY WRITING TO GET THE BETTER OF ME
The Hours (2002)
HAD OUR PLANS SCUPPERED BY THE RAINFALL *
Flushed Away (2006)
HAD OUR PLANS OR REALITIES ALTERED BY MISSING A TRAIN
Sliding Doors (1998)
WENT TO THE WINCHESTER, HAD A COLD PINT, AND WAITED FOR IT ALL TO BLOW OVER
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
MET OR BUMPED INTO ANYONE REMOTELY FAMOUS
Notting Hill (1999)
MY YOUNG CHILD MISBEHAVED, THE LITTLE DEVIL
The Omen (1976)
MET THE QUEEN, OR ANY ROYAL SUBJECTS
The Young Victoria (2009)
GOT INTO A SCUFFLE ON THE UNDERGROUND *
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
DANCED ON THE STREET WITH HEATHER GRAHAM TO THE MUSIC OF BURT BACHARACH
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
* = Granted, not all of these movies are wholly based in England’s capital (like the subway in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), nor is a huge toilet classed as rainfall (yet the effects may be the same), but all have scenes set in London.
