The usual suspects are present in the nominations from the North Texan Film Critics – one of the lesser known I might add. The Florida Project, The Shape of Water, Lady Bird, Dunkirk, Get Out, The Post, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri are all prominent, even the likes of Wonder Woman, Molly’s Game, Blade Runner 2049, Stronger, Battle of the Sexes made a big impression. And no wonder given the multiple nominees beyond five in each category.
That said, and I’ve given the nominations more than one careful inspection, Call Me By Your Name appears nowhere – no Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay – nothing. Did the movie not open in Texas? No access to the festivals? I mean, why else would that particular state of professional film folk not vote for a film of this nature? Indeed. While you ponder that, take a look at was nominated.
