Beyond the Lights was the other half of the Gugu Mbatha-Raw breakthrough combo of 2014 (the other being Belle, also directed by a woman). Gina Prince-Bythewood’s romantic drama also features Minnie Driver, Nate Parker, and Danny Glover (who also played alongside Mbatha-Raw in the TV drama Touch). Agenda Once again, if you reside in America you’re laughing, anywhere else you are scrabbling for a stream or rummaging through your purses. Though £6.99 to pay for a film to watch in the comfort of your own home (or office) is not too bad.
