73rd Cannes International Film Festival Will Not Be Held in May

Following the world wide turbulence caused by the Coronavirus outbreak, it is the time of the 73rd Festival de Cannes organisers to step forward and make a decision. The Cannes Film Festival, the world’s most international film event, was due to progress through 12th to 23rd May 2020.

“At this time of global health crisis, our thoughts go to the victims of the COVID-19 and we express our solidarity with all of those who are fighting the disease.” said a festival official. The Festival de Cannes team precious stated that a decision about the event would be announced in April, but they have come to a decision today given the increasingly worrying circumstances.

“Several options are considered in order to preserve its running, the main one being a simple postponement, in Cannes, until the end of June-beginning of July, 2020.” The organisers will in the meantime consult with the ongoing struggles the COVID-19 causes alongside the French Government, film professionals, and Cannes’ town officials. They go on to say “In the meantime, the Festival de Cannes lends its vocal support to all of those who firmly call on everyone to respect the general lockdown, and ask to show solidarity in these difficult times for the entire world.”
