The Writers Guild of America has announced the winners of the 75th Writers Guild of America Awards. Sean Baker took out Original Screenplay for Anora, RaMell Ross & Joslyn Barnes scored Adapted Screenplay for Nickel Boys, and Mark Monroe won Documentary Screenplay for Jim Henson: Idea Man.
While these winners are occasionally a good indicator for the two Screenplay categories at the Academy Awards, only screenplays written under the WGA’s guidelines are eligible for their annual awards. Oscar nominees like Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Sing Sing, The Brutalist, and The Substance were some of the screenplays ruled ineligible this season.
