Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscars Predictions (December)

With the unveiling of the Academy’s shortlists, we now know the final ten films in contention for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. While there were no major snubs to speak of, there was one surprise inclusion with yet-to-be-released Waltzing with Brando somehow breaking in. Does that signal an eventual nomination for a film the majority of people have never seen? It could happen.

The Substance, Wicked, A Different Man, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice all scored nominations with both the Critics Choice Awards and the Make-up & Hair Stylists Guild. Shockingly, Dune: Part Two was completely ignored by the MUAH and I don’t know if that suggests an Oscar snub is coming too. It was one of the few tech Oscars its predecessor lost, so maybe the sequel won’t even be acknowledged this year.

BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING PREDICTIONS:
1. The Substance (Mubi) – CCA, MUAH (x3)
2. Wicked (Universal Pictures) – CCA, MUAH (x2)
3. Nosferatu (Focus Features) – CCA
4. A Different Man (A24) – CCA, MUAH
5. Dune: Part Two (Warner Bros.) – CCA

IN CONTENTION:
The Apprentice (Briarcliff Entertainment)
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (Warner Bros.) – CCA, MUAH (x3)
Emilia Pérez (Netflix) – MUAH
Maria (Netflix)
Waltzing with Brando (VMI Worldwide)
