Best Supporting Actress Oscars Predictions (October)

Welcome to the supporting actress race for 2024. With the fall film festival season now in the distance and a few potential contenders still to debut on the horizon, it’s time for our first look at the battle for Best Supporting Actress.

Much like her co-star Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones has emerged from the festivals as a solid contender for The Brutalist. A previous nominee for The Theory of Everything in 2014, Jones gives a compelling performance as László Tóth’s long-suffering but endlessly supportive wife, Erzsébet. If the film becomes a major contender across the board, Jones could push her way to the front of this incredibly strong pack.

It’s Zoe Saldaña who finds herself in the leader’s spot right now for her sensational turn in Emilia Pérez. While it was clear at the fall festivals that the film couldn’t quite replicate the universal acclaim it received at Cannes, few could deny Saldaña knocks it out of the park. Personally, I still think she’s a co-lead with Karla Sofia Gascón, but it is what it is. There’s a strong chance Saldaña’s co-star Selena Gomez could join her in the final five. Gomez is seemingly adored by the industry, especially after her acting career blossomed with her Emmy-nominated turn in Only Murders in the Building. Could she add an Oscar nomination to her name as well?
