Femme Filmmakers Festival is an online film festival showcasing the works directed by women. This year’s event runs Friday 7th September – Sunday 16th September 2018. Promoting and encouraging live viewings, with details of where to stream / watch. This includes feature films and a curated selection of short films. Special focus on certain directors, podcasts, reviews, featured articles from passionate writers, interviews with filmmakers, as well as extensive coverage across social media to spread the word. Runs for 10 days, with daily updates and coverage of the event at Filmotomy.
From an official selection of short films, there is a roll of honor at the close of the festival. A small jury is assembled (to be confirmed), who watch all selected films, and converse to honor the short films in various categories. No physical prize or cash reward is given, the main goal is to provide a great awareness of female filmmakers. There is no entry fee at this stage. The categories, of which there are currently 10, are: Mixed Media and Visual Design; Editing; Cinematography; Writing; Original Music: Directing; Male Performance: Female Performance; The Maya Deren Short Film Innovation Prize; Film Short Grand Prize.
There are 52 films showcasing. The split this year is 22 features, 30 shorts. We will strive to offer the best coverage and publicity for the films and their makers. The feature films will run out of competition in the short film event, of course. Details of the films and where you can stream them will be made available on the day of the film’s place in the schedule. FYI, the woman on the posters is Ida Lupino.
