Georgia Michailidi’s short film Boo! opens on a lovely and sunny day in a cemetery. Two female ghosts, Sunshine and Lilian, pass the time choosing who they will haunt as people stroll by. Time is running out. They are in love and need to do this to stay together.
Over the course of the film, we learn more about the lives of these two women, including how they died. Boo! could have been a dark and brooding film, dealing with issues of death, love, and the idea of spending eternity in hell. Yet- it is a very pretty film. The color palette of the film is warm, springtime colors. Sunshine is especially so, wearing a yellow dress, wanting to sit in a green park, and eating a variety of candies.
What I enjoyed most about the film was the chemistry between Sunshine and Lilian. Although these characters were alive during totally different time periods, somehow they found each other in the afterlife. The shots of the women playing with each other’s hair, and gazing into each other’s eyes. This is a truly moving piece of art and I highly recommend it.
