So as expected, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will not be shown at 72nd Cannes Film Festival, as the film is still stuck in the editing suite. And with the no Netflix films fiasco continuing, that narrows down the potential selection this coming Thursday for the Cannes Film Festival Official Competition lineup. Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Ari Aster (Midsommar) and James Gray (Ad Astra) will not be making it to the French Riviera also this year.
Among the eagerly anticipated filmmakers that are absent from the Official Selection are, unfortunately, Kelly Reichardt (First Cow), Cristi Puiu (Malmkrog), Roy Andersson (About Endlessness), Leos Carax (Annette), Mia Hansen-Løve (Bergman Island), Atom Egoyan (Guest of Honour), Alice Winocour (Proxima), Hirokazu Kore-eda (The Truth). I mean, I could go on all day. But even without these bright shiny stars of the filmmaking world, there is still plenty to have your mouth watering like a ravenous dog taunted with a 4 foot ham.
