Filmotomy launches ‘Pandora International Film Critics’ Awards

As I still compile the rules and whatnot of such a huge process with the freshly squeezed film critics group assembled through Filmotomy, I wanted to get the ball rolling on making this public. Finally.

Married to a Greek has its perks, and as that great nation pretty much created everything, it was apt to include some of the mythology in the creative arts awards. Pandora, a Greek goddess, might be famous for opening that box, but is defined as one with all the gifts. So say hello to the Pandora International Film Critics (PIFC) Awards. This is of now a purely unofficial awards body, but if we all roll with it you never know.

In brief, the Pandora International Film Critics were gathered over the last couple of months. The aim is to provide a somewhat more international perspective to awards season. The main category being International Motion Picture – though there is an English-Language Motion Picture category too – the awards group will shed light on some of the world cinema that often gets overlooked. True, you will find many of the big, popular films that are shown in every cinema across all the lands, which will align with much of what has prevailed during the current season.

Whether European or Asian or wherever, the Pandora International Film Critics are made up of online movie buffs that give the likes of Greek, Belgian, Mexican, Turkish voices to film honoring. Speakers of English, of course, but also Spanish, Vietnamese, Finnish are part of the group. Dwellers, too, in Austria, Puerto Rico, Australia, France, and yes, that’s right, US of A.

The official nomination ballots went out a few days ago, and the nominations for the Pandora International Film Critics Awards will be announced via Twitter this coming Saturday. The format is pretty straight forward. With an eye on recognising the film talents of the world, not just the English-language art form, voters will select what they consider the best of each category. I make sure it's known the company's in business. I'd see that it had a certain panache. That's what I'm good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.
