Final Oscars Nominations Predictions – Best Original Song

With the Academy’s nominations announcement drawing closer by the day, it’s time to lay it all on the line with my final Oscar nomination predictions. In the battle for Best Original Song, “El Mal” and “Mi Camino” from Emilia Pérez, “Kiss the Sky” from The Wild Robot, and “Compress/Repress” from Challengers have sailed through the precursor season with nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, the Critics Choice Awards, the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and the Society Of Composers & Lyricists Awards. They are all practically guaranteed an Oscar nod.

That leaves the fifth spot open. With nominations from CCA, HMMA, and SCL, it could very well be “Harper and Will Go West” from Will & Harper. But they’re up against 15-time nominee Diane Warren and “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight. Maybe Warren’s innate ability to nab a nomination without even trying may come to an end this season. But this is the woman who managed a nod just last year for the song from the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos movie. Enough said.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG PREDICTIONS:
1. “El Mal” by Clement Ducol, Camille and Jacques Audiard from Emilia Pérez (Netflix) – CCA, GG, HMMA (feature), SCL
2. “Kiss the Sky” by Delacey, Jordan Johnson, Stefan Johnson, Maren Morris, Michael Pollack & Ali Tamposi from The Wild Robot (Universal Pictures) – CCA, GG, HMMA (animated), SCL
3. “Compress/Repress” by Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Luca Guadagnino from Challengers (Amazon MGM Studios) – CCA, GG, HMMA (feature), SCL
4. “Mi Camino” by Clement Ducol and Camille from Emilia Pérez (Netflix) – CCA, GG, HMMA (feature), SCL
5. “The Journey” by Diane Warren from The Six Triple Eight (Netflix) – HMMA (feature), SCL

Alternate: “Harper and Will Go West” by Sean Douglas, Kristen Wiig & Josh Greenbaum from Will & Harper (Netflix) – CCA, HMMA (doco), SCL
