International Press Academy Announce their Satellite Awards Nominations

The vast range of categories that the Satellite Awards have demonstrated over the years might cause a red herring or six when it comes to the Oscar predicting game. Most are expert enough to have that in mind, but that said, there are many of the usual suspects here – not to mention some refreshing entries into this season’s awards run.

A Star Is Born builds up a bit more momentum, with nominations across the board. Perhaps as expected, but nothing for Visual Effects? The film also joins Rami Malek in the Musical or Comedy categories, because, well, they sing. With Bradley Cooper especially there’s not a lot of comedy on offer. But we get it.

The Favourite also piles on the nominations, and shows no sign of slowing down, seemingly nailed on in many branches without grabbing the status that would live up to its title. And other that the regular attendees, nice to see some fresh faces in competition. Like Trine Dyrholm for Nico, 1988, Rosamund Pike for Private War, and Nick Robinson for Love, Simon.

I make sure it's known the company's in business. I'd see that it had a certain panache. That's what I'm good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.
