The Directors Guild of America announced nominations for the films of 2019. An event which forms a crucial part of awards season. For a long, long time the DGA prize was a key reflection of where the Oscar would go. Times have changed, but not that much. Last year, of course, DGA nominees Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) and Peter Farrelly (Green Book) both failed to make the cut with the Academy.
Though Green Book still won Best Picture. Not since 2012 with Argo has the Best Picture winner not had their director nominated – and Ben Affleck won the DGA that year.
This year, the line-up is largely as predicted barring one pleasant surprise. The DGA will also honor first-time directors. You can see the nominees below, along with the also recently announced documentary selections. The DGA winners will be announced on 25th January 25.
