And so the time as come. Before we get completely engulfed in Sunday night’s BAFTAs and what it means to the illustrious awards season of 2019, we here at Filmotomy had the important business of announcing the winners of the Pandora International Film Critics Awards.
Voting ran for five days once the nominations were announced last week, and all entries have now been totaled and awaiting the public eye. As well as the 23 categories, there were three special awards honoring a world cinema icon, and both the Filmmaker and Actor or Actress of the Decade.
As expected, Parasite took the International Motion Picture prize and Directing for Bong Joon-ho – with the Set Design making it three wins. Also with three (consecutive) wins was Knives Out, winning Ensemble Cast, Breakthrough Acting for Ana de Armas, and Screenwriting Original for Rian Johnson.
With the most wins was 1917, with four awards. As well as English-Language Film, Roger Deakins and Thomas Newman both won, and the film also took Sound Design. The Irishman and Little Women grabbed two wins. Joe Pesci and Florence Pugh won in the Support acting categories, with The Irishman winning Editing, and Greta Gerwig winning Screenwriting Adapted.
Other winners included Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Lupita Nyong’o (Us), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Dolemite Is My Name, Bombshell, Avengers: Endgame, Toy Story 4, For Sama, and Wild Rose.
