The 25 Best Dressed on the Oscars Red Carpet

Bold reds. Classic Black. Popping pink. These were the main trending themes on display at the Oscars 2025 red carpet. Some designs stepped outside the three main colours for this year. Instead they opted for silhouettes and structure which is another bold theme for this Oscars. However, the 97th Academy Awards boasted striking silhouettes, rhinestones, sparkles, and long trains.

Although, other looks that did not quite make the list below include Timothée Chalamet’s bold butter yellow all-leather Givenchy suit by Sarah Burton. In addition, Demi Moore’s silver crystal-embroidered gown by Giorgio Armani. As well as, Goldie Hawn’s golden corset gown by Dolce & Gabbana, which gave a nod to the old Hollywood style.

Additionally, Michelle Yeoh’s bright and daring Balenciaga strapless gown in Matisse blue was contrastingly different to the rest of her fellow red-carpet celebrities. However, all four actors here opted for looks outside the Oscar themes for this years red carpet.

Oscars Honourable Mentions

Oscars Look: Mikey Madison

Congratulations to Oscar winner, Mikey Madison who won ‘best actress’ for Anora (2024). Here she’s styled in Christian Dior. Although, Mikey wore a strapless black and blush pink gown with a bow front and centre. It’s a demure and regal Oscar-style matched with her hair tied back in a clean up-do.

Oscars Look: Whoopi Goldberg

Although, Whoopi Goldberg stood out for being arguably the boldest look of the night. Wearing Christian Siriano, the designer stated the dress resembles water.

However, the sleek and flowy gown is even cinched at the waist with a long train and pockets too. It was certainly a look that got everyone talking. The dress made it under the honourable mention to this list of best dressed at this year’s Oscars.

25. Connie Nielsen

Gladiator II (2024) actress, Connie Nielsen opted for a blush pink gown. However, this shade also touched a few of the Oscar colour palettes for the red carpet dresses this year. Although wearing Elle Saab couture, the dress gave major nods to her wardrobe throughout Gladiator II (2024).

Additionally, Connie’s costumes in the film were flowy toga dresses. Similarly, here she gives that same style. Opting for an over-the-shoulder dress that flows into a long train. As well as a side-split to achieve a ‘leggy’ look.

24. Jon M. Chu

Jon M. Chu wore a suit by NB44. Although, the Oscar-nominated director was clearly inspired by his award-winning musical adaptation, Wicked (2024). Evidently, the emerald-green suit jacket gives huge hints back to the ‘Emerald City.’

The question we ask – is Jon M. Chu team Elphaba? Despite truly embodying the spirit of the Wicked musical, Jon paired his ‘green with envy’-coloured suit with a playful bow tie.

23. Monica Barbaro

Nominated for ‘best supporting actress’ in A Complete Unknown (2024), Monica Barbaro truly shined in Christian Dior. But from her dazzling silver sparkle bodice to her majorly flowy blush pink satin skirt, it was the gorgeous pleats which gave an ethereal feel.

Although, giving a light pop of colour on films biggest night of the year, Monica Barbaro shone bright on the red carpet.

22. Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler wore a Rachel Gilbert gown for this year’s Oscars ceremony. Rather importantly, the simple black velvet dress was strapless with a sweetheart neckline. Also it was form-fitting, and swerved out into a fishtail with a subtle train. This look was simple but stylish for the SNL comedian and returning Oscar presenter!

21. Jeremy Strong

Additionally, the nominee for ‘best supporting actor’, Jeremy Strong certainly gave a nod to The Apprentice (2024). Here he opted for a rich golden colour suit. However, wearing Loro Piana, his all-gold suit came in rather ‘strong’ and matched the colours of the Academy Awards. He certainly came to compete and become the red carpet’s ‘successor.’

20. Zuri Hall

Undoubtedly Zuri Hall wore her own design. Nevertheless, opting for a bolder shade. It was red dresses that were definitely trending at the Oscars this year. But, Zuri dazzled in the strapless fitted dress with a stylish belt which was sweetly wrapped into a rose!

19. Cynthia Erivo

Undoubtedly, in true Elphaba style, Cynthia Erivo wore Louis Vuitton. Here she opted for an emerald, green velour dress with a collar that was sure to make a statement.

Indeed enchanted by the land of Oz and the Emerald City, Cynthia opened the Oscars with a powerful duet. However, she truly choose to ‘defy gravity’ with fellow co-star Glinda… I mean Ariana Grande.

Also giving a nod to Wicked (2024) are Cynthia’s long nails, which have become a signature look for her. This Oscars her nails featured movie easter eggs. They even gave hints towards part two, Wicked: For Good (2025) released later this year.

18. Rowoon

K-pop star and K-drama actor, Rowoon chose an Amiri black suit jacket. But it’s also covered in sequins to give a glitz, glamour, and sparkle to the Oscars red carpet. However, it was arguably the most sparkly suit of the night. Another bold choice was the white shirt and loose mini scarf. But this style gave the look that he just rolled up on the red carpet pretty effortlessly and impressively. Of course, much like his dance moves.

17. Da’Vine Joy Randolph

It should be noted that previous Oscar winner for The Holdovers (2023), Da’Vine Joy Randolph strolled the red carpet wearing a strapless fitted black gown. However, designed by Tamara Ralph Couture, this sparkly black gown certainly made a mark at this years Oscars.

16. Margaret Qualley

Margaret Qualley wore Chanel in a classic black velvet gown with a small train. However, it’s the simple black dress staple which the designer house is famous for. Also, Margaret danced in the opening to the James Bond tribute. Although, there she did opt for Chanel again in a red velvet gown on stage.

15. Colman Domingo

The lead star of the Oscar-nominated film for ‘Best Picture’ – Sing Sing (2023), Colman Domingo opted for a bright red Valentino red suit jacket. However, it was the black detailing and the red sash belt which really added the glam. Although, it’s effortlessly stylish and of course matches with the red carpet perfectly. This bold choice certainly paid off its powerful statement.

14. Meg Ryan

Wearing Ashi Studio, the Hollywood legend of Rom-Com movies, Meg Ryan made a return to the Oscars stage. But she was not alone as her co-star from When Harry Met Sally (1989), Billy Crystal joined her.

However, the iconic duo presented the final and arguably most prestigious award of the night for ‘Best Picture.’ Although, Meg did opt for the Oscars red theming with a deep red velvet strapless dress. Also it even featured slits down the sides. However, the gown matched the red carpet and was perfectly on theme!

13. Fernanda Torres

Brazilian actress, Fernanda Torres was nominated for best actress for I’m Still Here (2024). Also, on the Oscars red carpet, she wore Chanel. Fernanda dazzled in a sparkle lacy long-sleeve bodice. As well as, decorated in a flowy skirt decorated in feathers.

12. Samuel L. Jackson

Hollywood legend, Samuel L. Jackson wore Giorgio Armani for cinema’s biggest night. The all-black suit on him looked effortlessly sleek without a tie. However, the jacket lapels even gave a little sparkle too. But decorated in black sequins, these did add a touch of shine to his Armani suit.

11. H.E.R.

Grammy-award winning Musician H.E.R. graced the red carpet wearing a Prabal Gurung dress. However, even the gold gown decorated in silver sparkles gave a nod to the golden Oscar statuette. The dress featured pockets too.

10. Marlee Matlin

Marlee was styled in Yara Shoemaker. But she added a shimmer and shine to the Oscars red carpet with her black bedazzled gown opting for a square-neck style.

Becoming the first deaf performer to win an Academy award back in 1986 for Children of a Lesser God, Marlee returned to the Oscars in 2022 for starring in the ‘best picture winner’, Coda (2021).

9. Lily Rose-Depp

Star of Robert Eggers’ phenomenal Nosferatu (2024), Lily-Rose Depp chose a sultry look for the 97th Academy Awards. The young actress wore Chanel in their classic black dress.

However, here Lily opted for a halter-neck design with a lacy train. Although, Ellen… I mean Lily-Rose truly embodied her character. Of course, the dark tones screamed ‘Nosferatu’ all the way to the Oscars stage.

8. Willem Dafoe

Starring in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu (2024), Willem Dafoe opted for a pitch-black suit.

Wearing Prada, the black suit undoubtedly gave nods to the dark theming behind the vampire movie.

7. Miley Cyrus

American pop princess and music icon, Miley Cyrus wore a black gown by McQueen. However, the sparkly bodice truly ruled with black sequins and was even levelled off with a long mesh skirt.

Also Miley paired her stunning Oscars dress with black lace biker gloves to accessorize her look.

6. Raye

However, if there’s someone who truly aced the red carpet this year, it’s Raye. Clearly, the Brit award-winning musician shined in a bold red Vivienne Westwood gown. Additionally, the dress flows just perfectly and matches the red carpet!

Raye also performed Skyfall (2012) on-stage as one of the performers for the James Bond tribute.

5. The Fifth Best Oscars Look: Andrew Garfield

Keeping it cool and looking dapper! Here is the star of Rom-Com, We Live in Time (2024). Andrew Garfield spun some webs on the red carpet to look effortlessly sultry and swag.

Although, wearing Gucci and some Oscar colours, his golden satin shirt and brown suit screamed ‘Academy Awards.’ However, Andrew even dared to pair the suit with some shades.

But one thing Andrew knows how to do is pose on the red carpet! Also, he seriously alludes model vibes.

4. The Fourth Best Oscars Look: Anok Yoi

However, if there’s nominations for best dressed on Oscars night, Anok Yoi wins my vote. Elegantly dressed in Marni, this golden strapless gown is spot-on for matching the colours to the Oscar statuette.

Additionally, the fishtail dress perfectly matches its strapless bodice. As well as, the long black feather boa which leaves a lasting impression. Additionally, the dress moves out to make a pretty trail on the red carpet.

3. The Third Best Oscars Look: Kieran Culkin

The Emmy winner for Succession added another trophy to his shelf. It was full steam ahead for Kieran as the overall favourite to win the Oscar for ‘best actor in a leading role’ in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain (2024).

Here Kieran opted for a Custom Zegna all-black suit with a black shirt and a bow tie. Although, the popular choice among male celebrities for the night was ties. So Kieran may have wanted to stand out opting for something slightly different for movies biggest night of the year.

2. The Second Best Oscars Look: Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande wore a Schiaparelli gown in blush pink. This hinted to a Glinda-esque style on the red carpet. But it was undeniably her performance gown which truly stole the show.

Although, stopping wizards on their way to the yellow brick road, Ariana wore Schiaparelli again. Designed by Daniel Roseberry, this stunning red gown of course gives nods to Dorothy’s ruby-red slippers from The Wizard of Oz (1939).

However, she truly transforms from Glinda on the red carpet to Dorothy on-stage. Ariana gave a performance of a lifetime when she opened the show with her rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’

The pop princess then returned to the stage for a tear-jerking duet of ‘Defying Gravity’ with co-star Cynthia Erivo. Ariana’s dazzling red gown even featured a sparkly red heel in the back. This was made to pay homage to Judy Garland’s legendary ‘Dorothy.’

1. The Best Oscars Look: LISA

K-pop superstar LISA from BLACKPINK served three incredible looks during the Oscars. Starting with her red-carpet dress designed by Mark Gong. Then moving onto her glamorous gown for the James Bond tribute performance. She then ended the night with a lacy black ensemble for the Vanity Fair after-party. Undoubtedly, her red-carpet dress included a great reference to James Bond’s infamously characteristic tuxedo suit.

But there’s hints and similarities to Daniel Craig’s Bond era, particularly in Casino Royale (2006). In the movie Bond wears a tuxedo and delivers one of the franchise’s most well-known scenes. This happens when Bond gambles not just with his poker chips but with his life after getting poisoned by arch-nemesis, Le Chiffre. Ultimately, it’s a Bond girl who saves his life via Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd.

LISA dazzled in an elegant cross between a suit and gown with a feminine twist. Her gorgeous performance gown was designed by Rahul Mishra. This featured a long-sleeved lacy black gown with plenty of sparkle and shine with a red satin lining. Undeniably, it’s LISA’s year with a James Bond Oscar performance. As well as, starring in season three of Mike White’s widely popular, The White Lotus (2021-) on HBO.

The Oscars 2025 Styles

The best looks of the night include designs that matched this year’s themes. Essentially this included black, red, and pink. While Raye elegantly succeeded in red, LISA rocked white and black. As well as, Monica Barbaro’s blush pink gown which was instantly memorable. Yet hugely bold silhouettes served some of the best looks of the night. This included Cynthia Erivo’s magnificently wicked emerald-green ballgown and Anok Yoi’s figure-hugging golden gown.
