Filmotomy is excited to announce the winners of the 9th Femme Filmmakers Festival. There were so many amazing films and filmmakers selected for the festival that it certainly was a tough decision to select just one winner for each category. Above all, this year has seen an amazing selection of short films from female filmmakers across the globe telling emotional, touching, heartfelt stories and everything in between.

Various films have been explored throughout the short films showcased including Drama and Surrealist to Documentary and Animation. While the top three prizes of the festival are the Gold Sovereign, the Silver Sword and the Bronze Bell. Therefore, the competition selection jury members have awarded prizes to the following winners:

Top 3 Prize Winners

Gold Sovereign (Grand Prize)

The winner of the Gold Sovereign Prize is awarded to Heat Spell (Dir. Marie-Pier Dupuis)

Silver Sword (Second Prize)

The joint winners of the Silver Sword Prize is awarded to Brown Brit (Dir. The Romantix)/ Aquí y Allá
(Dir. Isabella Breton)

Bronze Bell (Third Prize)

The winner of the Bronze Bell Prize is awarded to Confessions (Dir. Stephanie Kaznocha)

Directing

The winner of Directing is awarded to Edith Jorisch (Mothers & Monsters)

Female Performance

The winner of Female Performance is awarded to Agathe Ledoux (Heat Spell)

Male Performance

The winner of Male Performance is awarded to Emmanuel Bilodeau (Gaby’s Hills)

Writing

The winner of Writing is awarded to Stephanie Kaznocha (Confessions)

Cinematography

The winner of Cinematography is awarded to Claire Sanford (Twig)

Editing

The winner of Editing is awarded to Amelie Hardy (Hello Stranger)

Original Music

The winner of Original Music is awarded to El Búho & Nita (Cenizas de Agua/Water Ashes)

Sound Design

The winner of Sound Design is awarded to Samuel Gagnon-Thibodeau, Victor Hayeur, Laurent Ouellette, Joey Simas (Mothers & Monsters)

Visual Design

The winner of Visual Design is awarded to Frédérique B. Ste-Marie, Guillaume Laflamme, Anaïs Côté and Camille Sabbagh (Mothers & Monsters)

Mixed Media

The winner of Mixed Media is awarded to Ralph Briscoe and Jay Stephen (Brown Brit)

Special Prize Winners

Special Contribution Prize

The winner of the Special Contribution Prize is awarded to Lara Haciosmanoglu for achieving a high standard of story-telling and film-making with the self-made student film, Hands.

The Maya Deren Short Film Innovation Prize

The winner of The Maya Deren Short Film Innovation Prize is awarded to Katalin Egely (Dir. Cenizas de Agua/Water For Ashes) for the consistently beautiful short animations and dedication to the artist craft. Additionally, in the 9 years of the Femme Filmmakers Festival Egely has had 7 films showcased.
