The official poster for the 72nd Cannes Film Festival has been revealed. In its glorious orange haze, it features a woman literally standing on the shoulders of man. Pointe Courte, 1954, Agnès Varda, in loving memory, perched high in the dawn of a wondrous filmmaking legacy.
What better way to shine brightly on innovation of fresh cinema endorsed by the Cannes Film Festival, than to have the ultimate motion picture poster girl. Varda represents the soaring, enduring audacity of a filmmaking revolution. For decades and decades this woman delivered a diverse range of excellence, which just dips the surface of why we would celebrate such a soul.
Varda, of course, has been to the French Riviera many times to visit the festival. And was a member of the Cannes Jury in 2005, as well as the Camera d’Or Jury President in 2013.
The Official Selection for the Cannes Film Festival 2019 will be unveiled by President of the festival, Pierre Lescure, and Delegate General, Thierry Frémaux, on Thursday 18th April, at 11am.
