American Society of Cinematographers Nominations Revealed

The nominations for the 36th American Society of Cinematographers Awards for feature films and documentaries have been revealed. This year’s chosen five theatrical release nominees are BelfastDuneNightmare AlleyThe Power of the Dog, and The Tragedy of Macbeth, while Faya Dayi, Cusp, and The Hidden Life of Trees are the three documentaries nominated.

The one major snub this year would be West Side Story, though keep in mind only four of last year’s five ASC nominees went on to receive an Oscar nod for Best Cinematography. This award could prove telling, as Erik Messerschmidt’s win from the ASC for Mank last year signalled his eventual win at the Academy Awards.

The ASC will announce the winners on Sunday, March 20 18 via a hybrid event from the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood that will also be live-streamed via the American Cinematographer’s Facebook page.
