Best Actress Oscars Predictions (December)

Much like the race for Best Actor, there are six actresses who picked up nominations from both the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics Choice Awards; Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Emma Stone (Poor Things), Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Margot Robbie (Barbie), and Greta Lee (Past Lives). It’s clear these are our six leaders and it’s going to be tough for anyone else to crack in.

But which of these six will miss the final five? I think it’s safe to say Gladstone, Stone, and Hüller are locked in. Gladstone is leading the way with the critics groups. Stone has picked up her fair share of wins too. And Hüller has scored some key wins with groups like Los Angeles and Toronto. Maestro is likely sweeping nominations across the board and we know the Academy loves Mulligan, so she’s probably safely in the top five too.

That final spot feels like it should be Robbie’s to lose, especially given Barbie looks set for a huge nomination tally. It would be rather unfathomable for Barbie to score so many nods and its star isn’t included, but you never know. Past Lives is hugely loved and Lee deserves to be there too. And don’t count out Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple), Annette Bening (Nyad), and Natalie Portman (May December) either. As always, it’s a crowded field in the Best Actress race and some painful snubs are coming.
