You have to feel for Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another). She didn’t miss a beat all season with nominations at the Golden Globes, the Actor Awards, the BAFTAs, and the Critics Choice Awards. And, in late January, she joined that unfortunate group to achieve this quartet and still fail to nab an Oscar nomination.
The relentless campaigning of Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue) paid off, and she scored her first Oscar nomination in almost 20 years. Kudos to her. At the end of the day, Hudson only missed a CCA nod, so it wasn’t exactly a huge shock she won the Academy over, too. Personally, I love her performance and have a soft spot for the film, but Hudson getting in at the expense of Infiniti will never make sense to me.
It’s all fairly irrelevant at the end of the day. We always suspected Jessie Buckley (Hamnet) would sweep this season. And, in February, she added a BAFTA to her streak of wins at the Globes, CCAs, and very likely a SAG win this Sunday. You’ll likely hear some rumblings about a potential Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) upset on the cards at SAG. Frankly, this feels like little more than an attempt to make this race more exciting than it is. It’s not happening.
