Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscars Predictions (December)

With the Oscars shortlists unveiled in late December, we now know the final 10 films in official contention for the five nomination spots for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. In my opinion, the biggest snub was The Green Knight. Its impeccable prosthetic work should have been enough to see it shortlisted. It was also surprising to see Spencer miss out, which was in my top 5 last month.

The most pleasing surprise was seeing Coming 2 America land on the shortlist. Back in October, I prophesied the film may have been released too early to be a contender for this year’s awards season, so it’s nice to be wrong. It also suggests Amazon Studios are clearly campaigning the film, so there’s a decent chance it slips into the final five nominees.

It was also rather surprising to see No Time to Die land on the shortlist. One has to presume that’s mostly due to the extensive prosthetic work on Rami Malek’s face. The film appeared in five shortlisted categories, so perhaps it’s a stronger technical contender than most had predicted.
