Best Supporting Actress Oscars Predictions (October)

With confirmation from Warner Bros. that Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another) will be campaigned in Best Actress, she naturally now tumbles out of this category. While I think Infiniti faces a much tougher task in scoring a nomination in the lead category and would have been a shoo-in for a supporting nod, it’s the right call. And that now gives Teyana Taylor a clear run here and maybe even gives Regina Hall a better shot at sneaking in too.

The first Wicked: For Good screenings have occurred. While the crowd was mostly filled with media personalities and influencers (critic screenings will commence next week), the reactions were unsurprisingly strong, especially for Ariana Grande. It’s likely shaping up as a battle between Grande and Taylor. The former has the edge in really being a co-lead, while the latter only appears in her film’s first act.

The campaign for Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value) has started well with a nomination at the Gotham Awards. It’s starting to feel like she may be the stronger contender over Elle Fanning, but I still feel like they can both make it in. And I will keep willing a nomination for Amy Madigan (Weapons) into existence until it becomes a reality.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR PREDICTIONS:
1. Ariana Grande – Wicked: For Good (Universal Pictures)
2. Teyana Taylor – One Battle After Another (Warner Bros.) – Gotham
3. Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas – Sentimental Value (NEON) – Gotham
4. Amy Madigan – Weapons (Warner Bros.)
5. Elle Fanning – Sentimental Value (NEON)
