Cate Blanchett – Ten from a “10”

Every generation has one, maybe two, if they’re lucky. So solid are their statures that when they are tagged with just a first or last name, a stream of images and sound bites cascades in one’s memory. Streep, Redgrave, Signoret, Christie, Hepburn, Garbo and Bergman. Add to that, Blanchett.

The camera loves her cool beauty and protean range. The prolific Aussie is at home on both stage and screen and, presently, has four films in the can. In her copious spare time she devotes her energies to artistic, humanitarian and environmental causes…and, of course, her family. Oh! And she’s also heading up the Jury at Cannes this month – it must be a slow period for her right now.

Here are ten of her films that show her diversity and considerable skill. On the lighter side, here she’s letting loose to Bonnie Tyler in Bandits, one of her all-too-rare comedic performances.

Happy birthday, Queen Cate!
