Final Oscars Nominations Predictions – Best Costume Design

With the Academy’s nominations announcement drawing closer by the day, it’s time to lay it all on the line with my final Oscar nomination predictions. Wicked, Conclave, and Nosferatu all have the three major precursor nominations in BAFTA, the Critics Choice Awards, and the Costume Designers Guild, so they feel like our solid top three. However, predicting those final two spots is proving tricky.

The period work of something like Gladiator II from previous winner Janty Yates feels like the kind of thing that’s up the Academy’s alley, especially those members still around from when Yates won for the film’s predecessor. And it would feel unfathomable for something as fantastically grand as Dune: Part Two to miss out. But the film’s overall campaign seems to have run out of steam, so it’s the most vulnerable. If A Complete Unknown sweeps, expect it to show up here.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN PREDICTIONS:
1. Wicked – Paul Tazewell (Universal Pictures) – BAFTA, CCA, CDG
2. Conclave – Lisy Christi (Focus Features) – BAFTA, CCA, CDG
3. Nosferatu – Linda Muir (Focus Features) – BAFTA, CCA, CDG
4. Gladiator II – Janty Yates (Paramount Pictures) – CCA, CDG
5. Dune: Part Two – Jacqueline West (Warner Bros.) – CCA, CDG

Alternate: A Complete Unknown – Arianne Phillips (Searchlight Pictures) – BAFTA
