Final Oscars Nominations Predictions – Best Original Score

With the Academy’s nominations announcement drawing closer by the day, it’s time to lay it all on the line with my final Oscar nomination predictions. In the race for Best Original Score, we’ve got three contenders who’ve picked up all five key precursor noms. Volker Bertelmann (Conclave), Clément Ducol and Camille (Emilia Pérez), and Kris Bowers (The Wild Robot) all have nominations from BAFTA, the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, Hollywood Music in Media and the Society of Composers and Lyricists, so they’re safely in the top five for the Oscar noms.

Daniel Blumberg (The Brutalist) only missed with HMMA, so he feels safely tucked away as well. That leaves that final spot and you would have to think it’s going to Golden Globe winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Challengers). But if Wicked really sweeps through the nominations, don’t be surprised to see John Powell and Stephen Schwartz honoured here. It has been almost 20 years since three-time winner Schwartz was nominated, so you never know.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE PREDICTIONS:
1. Conclave – Volker Bertelmann (Focus Features) – BAFTA, CCA, GG, HMMA, SCL
2. Emilia Pérez – Clément Ducol (Netflix) – BAFTA, CCA, GG, HMMA (feature), SCL
3. The Wild Robot – Kris Bowers (Universal Pictures) – BAFTA, CCA, GG, HMMA (animated), SCL
4. The Brutalist – Daniel Blumberg (A24) – BAFTA, CCA, GG, SCL
5. Challengers – Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Amazon MGM Studios) – CCA, GG, HMMA

Alternate: Wicked – John Powell, Stephen Schwartz (Universal Pictures) – SCL
