The trailer for The Post directed by Steven Spielberg was released on Wednesday. The film is based on the true story of the battle between journalists and the government and the publishing of the Pentagon Papers.
The first scene in the trailer sets us up for some high drama. Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks certainly have the chemistry to make this work. Spielberg’s fast action editing creates enough tension to make you want to see more. We only see a sampling of the all star cast including Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk and Bradley Whitford. This has Best Ensemble SAG award written all over it.
Based on the trailer alone, there is no doubt that there will be a handful of acting nominations. Steven Spielberg is overdue for a Best Director nom and don’t count it out for Best Original Screenplay. If you don’t know much about the story of the Pentagon Papers, this trailer will make you want to learn more.
The Post opens in limited release on December 22nd to qualify for an Oscar run and opens wide on January 12th. What are you going to do Mrs. Graham?
