Perhaps best known as Bronson, or Bane. Or his swath turn in Inception, or slick role in Lawless. You pick one. To Hardy’s range of roles and the quality he brings to them is admirable, and with Locke those and others may have been edged into the shadows. Hardy is so good here. It appears he does little physically, but with each call he makes, each scenario, each mile of his journey, comes a different way to handle it. Hardy as Ivan Locke, wispy beard and sleeves rolled up, acts with all the emotion and longing that ever-so-slightly begins to seep from him, even for such a composed man.
When Tom Hardy won Best Actor from the Los Angeles Film Critics I, and many others, wondered where he came from. As always with awards season, and the lead up to the Oscars, there a the front-runners, and those that pop up now and then. Hardy should be part of the former group rather than the latter. A performance so isolated and poignant, the movie’s excellence kind of depends on him. And boy does he deliver.

I don't believe.
Second time I write here and it is not publish.
Well…
A shorty…
I don't know if you remember, weeks ago I talked about Locke and Tom performance. It is really amazing. I just watched another amazing performance of hin in “The Drop”. He and Gandolfini, but mostly he. Don't miss it.
Change subject…
I just watched the best biopic that I have seen in years. It is “Marvelous” with Toby Jones. Do not miss it! Jones gives acting lessons in this movie. Excellent movie.
Damn! Now I really want to see this movie. I'd seen those other 1 man movies, Cast Away, All Is Lost, etc, and this somehow sounds different even from those.
Robin, do you want to see Tom Hardy nominated for Best Actor? Also, do you think he will?
I think, barring some late twist, the Best Actor race has been a steady ship. The like of Carell, Cooper, Gyllenhaal, Spall etc will fight out those last three spots. I haven' see American Sniper yet, and seeing Foxcatcher this week. But yeah, it would be great to see Hardy get in, great performance. But they didn't nominate Redford when he was almost a lock so…
