76th Writers Guild of America Awards Nominations Announced

The Writers Guild of America has announced the nominations for the 76th Writers Guild of America Awards. In the original screenplay category, the nominations are Air, Barbie, The Holdovers, May December, and Past Lives, while in the adapted category, the nominees are American Fiction, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret., Killers of the Flower Moon, Nyad, and Oppenheimer.

While these nominees are generally a good indicator for the two Screenplay categories at the Academy Awards, only screenplays written under the WGA’s guidelines are eligible for their annual awards. Oscar nominees Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, and The Zone of Interest were some of the screenplays ruled ineligible this season. Due to last year’s WGA strike, the awards were postponed and will not be held until April 14 (over a month after the Academy Awards), meaning the winners will have no bearing on the Oscar race.
