While it is nowhere near a masterwork of comedy, Bad Santa is a film that has more heart and soul than appears on the surface. For the most part, it has crude humour and profanity, but manages to communicate something much more emotional.
This is through Billy Bob Thornton’s character Willie who is a rugged train-wreck who drinks too much. He eventually steps in like a father for the quirky kid called Therman Merman (the name says it all) and from there we see some of his hard shell cracked. He is by no means perfect, but it is hard not to commend him for sticking up for the cowardly kid.
Bad Santa offers lots of laughs and for me, is one of the best Christmas movies.
