Final Oscars Nominations Predictions – Best Visual Effects

With the Academy’s nominations announcement drawing closer by the day, it’s time to lay it all on the line with my final Oscar nomination predictions. Only The Creator and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have nominations for Best Visual Effects from BAFTA, the Visual Effects Society, and Critics Choice, so consider them our two locks. One of them may even be our winner.

As for the other three spots, it’s really anyone’s guess which way this will go. I think the strength of Poor Things overall carries it to a nomination here, even if it didn’t receive any love from VES. On the flipside of that, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse tied for the most VES nods and that has to count for something. Godzilla Minus One would be such an inspired choice and I still maintain it’s a dark horse to win the whole thing, but don’t be surprised to see Society of the Snow sneak in on the basis of that stunning airplane crash alone.

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS PREDICTIONS:
1. The Creator (20th Century Studios) – BAFTA, CCA, VES
2. Godzilla Minus One (Toho) – VES
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Walt Disney Studios) – BAFTA, CCA, VES
4. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Sony Pictures) – CCA, VES
5. Poor Things (Searchlight Pictures) – BAFTA, CCA

Alternate: Society of the Snow (Netflix)
