Oh boy. Not going to the Cannes Film Festival this year just got a whole lot more painful with the revelation of . There’ll be a Midnight Screening of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, presented by none other than Alfonso Cuarón. Peter Fonda will be gracing French soil in celebration of 50 years of the classic road movie, Easy Rider. Not enough to wet your appetite? How about a three-film spotlight of another Mexican great, Luis Buñuel? Or a tribute to the iconic Lina Wertmüller? Pre-Palme d’Or, the Grand Prix winner from 1951, Miracle in Milan, from Vittorio De Sica. And I feel simultaneous shivers of sadness and seminal joy as Cannes bids a farewell to the gone-but-not-forgotten Milos Forman.
“The majority of the films will be screened at Buñuel Theater, Salle du 60e or at the Cinéma de la Plage, all presented by major players in the film heritage: directors, artists or restoration managers.”
