Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory Earns 16 Goya Nominations

Goya Pain and Glory

It is no surprise to see the maestro himself, Pedro Almodóvar, again hitting big with a nomination tally of 16 for Pain and Glory at the 2020 Goya Awards. This year, though, even with worldwide acclaim since the Cannes Film Festival, Almodóvar faces tough competition.

With 17 nominations for the Spanish Academy Awards, Alejandro Amenábar returns with While at War, and the directing trio of Aitor Aguirre, Jon Garaño and José Mari Goenaga have acquired 15 nominations for The Endless Trench. Two animations that are doing the awards circuit, Klaus and Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, are also nominated – the latter has garnered nods in some of the top categories too.

This will be the 34th Goya Academy Awards, recognizing the excellence in Spanish films. The winners will be announced in a ceremony come 25th January 2020, which will be held in Malaga. For now, here are those nominations in full for the 34th Goya Awards:
