Filmotomy’s ‘Cinema Sevens’ Series Looks to Remedy Some of those Film Writers’ Blues

An Unknown Future

There’s not much at all I can personally do about this alarming and unyielding pandemic we’re facing. Nor can I offer paid projects to the thousands of film bloggers, journalists, critics etc that now find themselves with a less unknown future or even that pesky writer’s block. World trauma such as this has a knack of crushing our creative inspiration.

Not being able to put pen to paper, so to speak, is not as essential as the endless fight for medical breakthrough during the Coronavirus outbreak. But we all fall into a remit of action. We all have a part to play. Especially with this ongoing isolation, were something as menial as popping out for a loaf of bread now has an implicit risk on our lives.

Get Those Creative Juices Flowing

My peers, fellow writers, film enthusiasts, friends, folk I’ve yet to meet, and to whomever this may concern. I address you now, as I launch a film series in which I invite many of you to contribute. Basically, each post will follow any number of themes from cinema and feature seven fine examples of that – with streaming links to aid us in these confined times. Each film reference would only need to be 100 words.

I want your creative juices to flow. I want you to talk about aspects of film you love from that bottomless pit of entertainment. I want you to just be writing. Whether it unlocks something fresh in you, knocks down that motivation barrier, puts a smile on your face, invigorates you to just write.

Anyway, here are a handful of some of the topics I’m running with first:

  • Moments of Envy / Wrath / Lust / Sloth / Gluttony / Greed / Pride
  • Modern Black and Whites
  • Breathtaking Openings
  • Heartbreaking Endings
  • Lisa Gerrard Scores
  • Julie Christie Performances
  • One Location Movies
  • Ambiguous Endings
  • How The Godfather III Ranks Alongside I and II

I’ll be badgering for contributors and ideas quite often, so you have been warned. Have something you want to write about? Are there scribblings saved somewhere you’re looking to utilize? Can we give you a platform so you can simply talk about film?

I make sure it's known the company's in business. I'd see that it had a certain panache. That's what I'm good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.
