Final Oscars Predictions – Best Makeup and Hairstyling

The race for Best Makeup and Hairstyling has been one of the more interesting battles of the season. Back in September, it was presumed sci-fi epic Dune might snatch this one to add to its swag of technical wins. And it still absolutely could. But given the fact the film hasn’t won a single make-up and/or hairstyling victory, it heads into the ceremony as somewhat of an outlier.

In February, Coming 2 America dominated the awards from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild with a clean sweep of three wins from three nominations. The film’s Oscar nomination was particularly impressive, given the film was released way back in March 2021. But that nod is probably going to be its only reward.

That leaves us with the purposely garish makeup and hairstyling of The Eyes of Tammy Faye, which just picked up key wins at BAFTA and Critics Choice. Those victories are impossible to ignore. Once the Best Actress tide turned towards Jessica Chastain, that really cemented her film as the frontrunner in this category.

We’ve seen Best Makeup and Hairstyling match an unrecognisable acting winner with Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose, Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady, Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour, and Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club, and it’s likely happening again this year with Chastain and The Eyes of Tammy Faye.

BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING PREDICTIONS:
1. The Eyes of Tammy Faye (Searchlight Pictures)
2. Dune (Warner Bros.)
3. Cruella (Disney)
4. Coming 2 America (Amazon Studios)
5. House of Gucci (MGM)

Will win: The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Should win: Cruella
Possible shocker: Coming 2 America
