Final Oscars Predictions – Best Sound

There’s an old saying that the loudest film often wins Best Sound at the Academy Awards, and that’s certainly fitting this year. That’s not to suggest the only redeeming quality of the masterful sound work of Dune is booming volume, but it definitely helps. From the very beginning of awards season, Dune has sat in the box seat for this race and refused to budge.

With wins from BAFTA, Critics Choice, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Motion Picture Sound Editors, Dune has completely dominated the sound race this year. Can I make a case for any of the other nominees? West Side Story also picked up a win from MPSE, but it was in the music category, so that was hardly surprising. Dune has had a lock on this category for months and nothing is changing that.
