WANT TO KNOW MORE

How was your Website / Podcast Conceived?

I also have a politics/comedy podcast called Bird Road, and I was always trying to push the conversations towards movies… So eventually after a year I decided that i should just start my own movie show, which really was something I always wanted to do.

What makes your Website / Podcast stand out from the rest?

I think what makes Piecing It Together stand out is our format, in which we look at movies through the lens of what other movies we think inspired it. This allows us to not just review a movie like every other movie podcast, but end up talking about a lot of other great movies along the way. I also think my variety of guests helps keep things fresh.

Where do you see your Website / Podcast in the next 5 years?

I just want to keep growing the show, having great new guests and reaching more people. I’d also love to start doing live shows and movie screenings with a live podcast recording after.

What are your Go-To Sites for Film?

Slash Film, Film School Rejects and Collider

Classic Film you Shamefully haven’t seen?

Too many to list. I’m terrible with classics because I rarely get to watch movies at home!

A Film that Genuinely Scared you?

When I was like 12 a Troma film called Dead Dudes In The House scared me so bad that I developed sleeping problems for years. Which is ridiculous because it was more of a horror-comedy and in retrospect would probably make me laugh if I’d seen it a couple years later!

A Film that still makes you Cry like a baby?

The Florida Project

Piecing it Together

A Film that still has you Pissing Your Pants Laughing?

Team America: World Police

An Old film you would love to see on an IMAX screen?

Army of Darkness

What is your Favorite Film of 2019 so far?

Climax

Which Screenplay do you wish you had Written?

Wet Hot American Summer

Who would Play you in your Biopic?

Weird Al Yankovich

Who should Host the Oscars next year?

It’s probably best to just keep it with no host… Although I always loved Chris Rock as a host.

Whose Zero Oscar wins or nominations hurts the most?

Willem Dafoe

The Internet is no more – what is your Job now?

Working at my family’s record store Wax Trax Records (which I do now anyway).

What is one of your greatest Childhood Movie Memories?

More so the teenage years, but Independence Day… I grew up in a small town and it was the early 90s and there were no real rules, and they just totally oversold the theater to where people were sitting in the aisles and bringing in their own food and everyone was cheering and laughing and it was just this big huge community experience and was SO much fun.

Pick 5 words that best describe going to the Cinema?

My. Favorite. Place. To. Be.

Where do you stand on Streaming Services and their place in film?

I think they’re great and I’m glad they exist, but I absolutely hate that the strategy seems to be getting exclusivity on these new films and not showing them in theaters. Every movie should at least get a 1-2 week theatrical run so that those who WANT to see it in the theater can. And none of this LA/NY only style theatrical run, I mean a real indie run where it plays in most big cities for a week or two like any A24 or Neon or Fox Searchlight film.

What is your Honest Opinion on the entire Star Wars saga?

I like The Last Jedi more than any of the Star Wars films that came before it. They’re perfectly FINE movies but I never really connected with them the way most people do.

We really need a Film Twitter definition – what is yours?

A bunch of people who think their film opinions are gospel and everyone else’s are wrong. But they should still listen to my podcast even though I just made fun of them.

Share one of your most Controversial movie world opinions?

I have a hard time watching old movies because I don’t like the way people talked and acted. I understand that they’re important films and influenced everything that’s come since, but just watching people talk in that highly over-exaggerated way is really hard for me to do.

Piecing it Together

Change one thing about a Masterpiece, and tell us why?

Terminator 2 never got any sequels (even though Terminator 3 isn’t really that bad).

What are some of the Film Quotes you use a lot in everyday life?

“Lets go eat, huh.” – The Room
“Life’s a garden. Dig it.” – Joe Dirt

What is the Role of a Film Critic – and how important are they?

To discuss and analyze film. I think people should be naturally curious and choose and watch movies without film critics, but then when they want to further look into the movies and continue to analyze them, the material will be out there for them to dig into.

A Film Buff asks you for advice starting a Website / Podcast – what do you tell them?

You better love movies and talking/writing about them, because this is going to take over your life.

I make sure it's known the company's in business. I'd see that it had a certain panache. That's what I'm good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.
