Lady Macbeth, God’s Own Country, I am Not A Witch Win Big At The British Independent Film Awards

The British Independent Film Awards strive to shine a spotlight on the finest, most innovative independent film craft in the UK. Some truly excellent examples of British film competing for prizes here – check out the nominees. The winners were announced tonight with many of the big prizes split between three films. Lady Macbeth, already scoring well in the tech categories, walked away with Screenplay and Actress, as well as Promising Newcomer. While I Am Not A Witch landed the Breakthrough Producer award as well as Best Director. Meanwhile, it was God’s Own Country that took the big prize, Best British Independent Film, with Best Actor to boot. In truth, any of those three could easily have nabbed the top award. The nine technical categories were announced earlier, but check out the slideshow below for all the winners tonight.

Best Costume Design: HOLLY WADDINGTON for Lady Macbeth

Best Editing: JON GREGORY for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Best Effects: NICK ALLDER and BEN WHITE for The Ritual

Best Make Up & Hair Design: NICOLE STAFFORD for The Death of Stalin

Best Music: CARTER BURWELL for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Best Production Design: CRISTINA CASALI for The Death of Stalin

Best Sound: ANNA BERTMARK for God’s Own Country
